But in a stunning turn of events, Canisius' Adam Jones scored at the buzzer to bring the two teams to overtime, where MC fell in sudden death.
The Jaspers were coming off back to back wins against St. Josephs and St. Peters, as the Jaspers took on the Griffs.
Fans filled Gaelic on a sunny senior day. Prior to the game, Marrano and John Geagan were recognized for their contributions to the team. Marrano currently leads the team with 79 ground balls and boasts a 119-93 record on face-offs. In goal, Geagan has a 9.74 goals against average and a save percentage of .533.
Early in the contest, MC jumped ahead with three goals from Justin Jensen, Brett Miranda and Kelly Mahon.
The Griffs were unable to snag the lead until the second quarter. And it was short-lived as Sal Perrotto tied the game with 6:43 on the clock. The half consisted of back and forth action, as neither team was able to gain a significant lead.
An impressive play connection from Marrano to James Synowiez on man-down brought the score to another tie. The half closed with both teams at six.
Synowiez tallied the first goal of the second half allowing the Jaspers to regain the lead. But Canisius tied the score again not even a minute later. MC then grabbed a two-goal lead with the help of Salvatore Spatarella and Synowiez.
With less than two minutes to go in the fourth quarter, a shot from Canisius' Todd Benzinger tied the score once more. However, MC's Joe Variano allowed the Jaspers to hold a 10-9 lead with a goal at 8:59.
Three goals were scored in the final minute of regulation. The Griffs' Jones tied the game up at 10 with 53 seconds remaining. Then the crowd went wild when Marrano scored with thirty seconds left to give the Jaspers a one goal advantage. But Jones scored once more to send the game to overtime.
There was much disappointment as the Jaspers were unable to hold off the Griffs. Jones shot served as the kiss of death for the Jaspers. A goal from Canisius' Travis Gibbons 1:39 into overtime gave the Griffs a 12-11 overtime victory.
Synowiez had three goals and an assist on the day. Jensen added two goals to the effort. Perrotto notched a goal and two assists. Marrano collected a game-high 11 ground balls, as the Jaspers held a 44-42 advantage on the ground.
MC will play their final home game today against Providence at 4 pm in Gaelic.
