Godspell on Friday
Laurel Noble
Issue date: 4/22/09 Section: Arts & Entertainment
This Friday is the opening night for the Players Spring musical.
Godspell was the musical of choice for this year's production. With only two lead parts, Jesus played by sophomore Danny Crawford and Judas played by sophomore Amy Rowe, the production relies on the chorus.
"No one every leaves the stage for the entire production," senior Leah Cornish said.
Godspell is originally a 1970s musical told from the parables of Matthew. At the time it was performed the music that was performed intermittently between parables was hip and of the times. But the MC Players version will bring a little bit of a difference. The production is now updated to a 90s Rentish version. "The music and stories are familiar but the setting will be different," Cornish said.
The musical will be held in Smith Auditorium Friday at 8:00, Saturday at 2:00 and 8:00 and Sunday at 3:00 and 8:30. All tickets are $5 and can be purchased outside Locke's Loft all week or at the door. Reservations are highly suggested. To do so, send an email to mcplayers@hotmail.com.
