Lady Jaspers Lose in First Round of MAAC Tourney
The MC women's basketball team season came to an end last Thursday with a 68-63 loss to Loyola in the first round of the 2009 Citizens Bank MAAC Basketball Championships held at the Times Union Center in Albany.
The eighth-seeded Lady Jaspers led for the entire first half and had a 5-point lead at halftime over the Greyhounds, 38-33.
But with 10 minutes remaining in the game Loyola staged a comeback and went on a 10-0 run giving them a 7-point advantage, 57-50. Ninth-seeded Loyola hung onto their lead and upset MC 68-63.
In their final game as Lady Jaspers, seniors Annie McIntyre finished with a team-high 17 points and tied a career-high with four steals while Kelly Regan contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. McIntyre hit five treys in the game bringing her career total to 98 which ranks sixth all-time in school history. Regan finished her career with 1,103 points, which ranks fourteenth in school history and grabbed 533 rebounds, the twelfth highest total in school history.
Freshmen Lindsey Loutsenhizer recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Michelle Pacheco contributed 11 points off the bench. Freshmen Alyssa Herrington finished with 73 treys on the season which was one shy of the single-season school record.
Loyola advanced to play top-seeded Marist in the quarterfinals on Friday and were destroyed 81-27. Marist then faced Iona in the semis and won 79-76. In the championship game Marist defeated Canisius 78-63. This marks the Red Foxes' fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Jaspers split with Delaware
This past weekend the Jaspers baseball team traveled to Newark, Delaware to face the University of Delaware for four games. The Jaspers and the Blue Hens split the series, Delaware won both games on Saturday (15-13 and 11-5), while MC won both games on Sunday.
In the first game on Sunday, junior Anthony Armenio tied the game at 8 with a grand slam in the fifth inning. In the sixth junior Kevin Nieto knocked in a two-run homerun giving the Jaspers the runs they needed to go on and win 11-9.
