Many members have been in the organization for years. Marty Larkin is an alum that has been marching since 1994 and Dan Fitzpatrick joined three years ago after not piping for years. Fitzpatrick said, "I enjoy playing with young people. All the different ages balance out and we all have lots of fun."

Although they may differ in age, all the members would agree that marching as a part of the Pipes and Drums is a blast. Pipe Major Thomas McCarthy said his favorite part of marching in the NYC St. Patty's Day Parade is, "the feeling I get when we first make the turn onto 5th Ave. There are masses of people lining the streets and it's just overwhelming." Sophomore piper Connor Dougherty agreed and said, "You can feel the enthusiasm and energy of the crowd. It's crazy."

The players of the Pipes & Drums not only march in NYC but also march in seven other parades. They kicked off their marching season this past weekend in Rockaway Queens and as a part of the parade in Yonkers, NY. In the upcoming weeks they will march in the White Plains St. Patty's Day Parade, the Throgs Neck and Eastchester parades, the parade in Rockville Center on Long Island and finish up with the Pearl River St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 22.

If you're interested in joining Manhattan College Pipes & Drums please contact Thomas McCarthy at Alumni Relations.

If you'd like to march with MC it's very simple. Show up on the morning of March 17th at 11:30 am on West 45th Street between 5th & 6th Ave. Buy a sash from the MC Gaelic Society for $5 and get in line.

Come out and be a part of 247 years of NYC history. It will be a day of Irish pride, MC pride, shamrocks & lots of fun. There's no excuse because you know what they say - everyone's Irish on St. Patty's Day!
