Since the December release of Dreamgirls, the actress has been the talk of Hollywood. Her stellar performance in the film, both vocally and as an actress, has dominated awards conversation. Her co-star Beyonce Knowles was expected to dominate the picture due to her greater experience in acting and singing. Despite that, Hudson stole the show.
Dreamgirls director, Bill Condon, was immediately impressed with Hudson's natural talent, as were her co-stars Eddie Murphy and Jaime Foxx. Her performance undeniably stands out throughout the film. With Condon's help, Hudson put aside her shyness, ignored her shock and inexperience and fully indulged herself as Effie White, an influential, charismatic diva.
Jennifer Hudson has earned solid recognition for her role in Dreamgirls, including countless awards for Breakout Performer of the year and Best Supporting Actress. On January 15, 2007 Hudson won the award for best supporting actress in a motion picture at the Golden Globe Awards. Her emotional acceptance speech no doubt signified the newly famous star's awe of the moment and her success.
Her performance has also been honored by the New York Film Critics Circle, African-American Film Critics Association, and the Broadcast Film Critics Awards. In addition, the Oscar buzz became official news on January 23 when Hudson's nomination for best supporting actress was announced. She has also signed a record deal with Clive Davis.
