No Tuition Hike in the Construction of Parking Garage

Construction on the new $40 Million Pathmark and Broadway parking garage is set to begin in the first quarter of 2007. Discussion for a new parking garage began 20 years ago, and this will finally be accomplished by building a superstore on the bottom level.
Manhattan College talked to several chain stores before renting out the bottom level to Pathmark. Manhattan has a steady flow of money that will help pay the costs of the garage through leasing the space. Other sources of money that will help pay the construction costs are a $5.5 million dollar grant from the federal government, a $50 million bond from the New York State Dormitory Authority, and funds from the capital campaign.
The new Pathmark and parking garage will be located on Manhattan's Broadway parking lot. According to the Vice President of Finance, John Daily, construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2007 and end in the first quarter of 2008. According to Juan Cerzeo, Assistant Director of Security, when construction begins 240 cars will be displaced. Commuters will be able to park in the Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course and will have to catch a shuttle to get to main campus since it is father away than Broadway lot. Residents who are parked in the Broadway lot will not be able to keep their cars on campus.
Pathmark, which is paying for the construction of its store, will be located on the ground level and will receive the first level of the garage for parking. Manhattan will get the other five levels of parking. More than 700 parking spaces will be available for commuters, residents, staff, and faculty. Over night parking will be permitted except on the rooftop.
Each level will be connected to the next by driving ramps and there will be security cameras on each level, which will be monitored at the guard station. Two security call stations will also be located on each level and the elevators will also have communications with the guards. Security guards will do rounds in the garage 24 hours a day and a guard will sit in the guard booth.
