The 2006-2007 regular season will begin for the Lady Jaspers on November 10th against Providence. The new year will have high hopes, but the Lady Jaspers must stay consistent and balanced in order to compete for a Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) title.
The Lady Jaspers will consist of five juniors: guards Amanda LoCascio, Joann Nwafili, Gabrielle Cottrell, Aubrie Dellinger, and forward Caitlin Flood; three sophomores: guards Annie McIntyre, forward Kymesha Alston, and center Kelly Regan; and five freshmen: guards Michelle Pacheco, Lindsay Brown, Jenna Franciosa, Vanessa Davison, and forward Jess Victor. The team will not contain any seniors, but will have eight players returning from last year's team.
With 13 players on the squad, fourth-year head coach Myndi Hill will be expecting 13 leaders. "We don't throw around leadership, we ask all our players to lead," said Coach Hill.
This is a young and talented basketball team, but the players are raw and are still developing their skills to compete at a steady level. Young teams usually do not play consistent, though Coach Hill thinks more consistency will come with time. "The season will be defined on consistency," said Hill.
During media day on Tuesday October 24th, the MAAC pre-season coaches' poll was revealed. The Lady Jaspers are ranked sixth, ahead of rivals Rider, Saint Peter's, Niagara, and Loyola. Iona College is number one, while defending champions Marist College is ranked second.
The Lady Jaspers will have a challenging schedule, but will play four of their first seven at Draddy Gym. To go along with their eighteen conference games, which include four games against Iona College and Marist College, the Lady Jaspers will have eleven non-conference games.
In their non-conference schedule, the Lady Jaspers will play three Big East teams, Providence, Marquette, and Villanova, and NCAA tournament participant, University of Hartford. The Lady Jaspers will end their regular season at home against division foe Sienna College on Sunday, February 25th.
