After a tremendous indoor season, which included first place at the MAAC Championships and fourth place at the IC4A Championships, men's track and field rode this momentum to jump-start the outdoor season, beginning at the Baldy Castillo Invitational, hosted by Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.
At this meet, four Manhattan College throwers qualified for the NCAA Regionals. Senior Zoran Loncar walked away with first place after a throw of 64.97 meters. Junior Paul Peulich finished second, senior Mike Freeman landed in fourth and senior Anders Constantin in seventh. Also qualifying for the NCAA Regionals at this meet were sophomore Milan Jontanovic in the shot put with a distance of 18.46 meters and sophomore Dexter Jules in the triple jump with a height of 15.21 meters.
Notably, senior Tyler Raymond placed first in the men's 1500-meter race with a time of 3:57.37. Sophomore Chris Sole set a personal record in the high jump with a jump of 2.10 meters, which would also be good enough to qualify for NCAA Regionals.
Next for the outdoor season, the Jaspers were off to bright and sunny Las Vegas, Nev. At the UNLV Invite Meet, the men's track and field team finished third just behind Texas Tech University and Southern Illinois University. There were many bright spots at this event, and again, they begin with the throwers.
Of the attached athletes at this event, the men's track and field team took the top three spots in the hammer throw. Junior Paul Peulich finished first with a throw 61.93 meters. Constantin and Freeman finished second and third, respectively.
In the triple jump, Jules walked away with a first place finish with a jump of 15.50 meters. He would also be a part of the men's 4 X 100 meter relay that finished second to Texas Tech University. Sole won the high jump with a jump of 1.98 meters, and juniors Denis Street and Nick Newman finished second and third, respectively, in the long jump.
In the 800-meter run, Raymond came out on top with a time of 1:54.81. Darnell Douglas also scored for the Jaspers, as he finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.62. Last but not least, in the 110-meter hurdles, junior Joseph Cruz took sixth place with a time of 14.75.
It has been a sensational start for the outdoor season of Men's Track and Field. This season seems as though it will be as great as ones before. The men's team looks to follow last year's performances, as they won at both the Metropolitan Championships and MAAC Championships. A win in each event would give the Jaspers three in a row at METs and an astounding nine in a row at MAACs. Last year, the Jaspers also had a strong showing at the IC4A meet, finishing in fourth place.
