Bobby Gonzalez a Great Help for the USA WUG Team

Manhattan College men's basketball head coach Bobby Gonzalez and the entire USA World University Games Team brought home the 13th gold medal for the team after beating Ukraine 85-70. Gonzalez was assistant coach to Jay Wright of Villanova University.

Before capturing the big award at the end, the team defeated Russia (120-80 in Semifinal), Australia (88-68 in quaterfinal), China (117-61) and the Czech Republic (87-51) among others.

Craig Smith of Boston College led the way for the USA team with a total of 16 points before leaving with an injury in the second quarter. Smith scored 12 points in the first half to send the USA team to Halftime winning 24-17.

Smith was followed by six players in double digits Shelden Williams of Duke with 15 points, Gerry McNamara of Syracuse contributed 13, Randy Foye of Villanova had 12, Chris Hernandez of Stanford had 11 and Vincent Grier of Minnesota contributed 10 points for the team.

The United States of America team was undefeated throughout the entire World University Games with a 8-0 record.
